En horas de la mañana, representantes del Movimiento Unidad Popular acudieron a la Fiscalía General del Estado para presentar una denuncia en contra del ex presidente Rafael Correa por su responsabilidad del manejo inadecuado de la deuda pública, la misma que se definió ayer en el informe presentado por el contralor Pablo Celi.

Geovanny Atarihuana, director nacional de UP recordó que ya presentaron una denuncia en contra de Correa, en agosto del 2017 por el manejo doloso de la deuda: “Hoy la Contraloría General del Estado nos ha dado la razón y ha establecido responsabilidades penales, pues, al firmar el Decreto Ejecutivo 1218 violó la Ley, ya que modificó el techo del endeudamiento público; además cometió peculado al haber beneficiado a empresas petroleras chinas y tailandesas y perjudicado a 17 millones de ecuatorianos”, sostuvo.

“Llegó la hora de que se castigue al jefe de la corrupción en este país. Correa debe ir a la cárcel”, dijo Atarihuana en voz alta, apoyado de la multitud que lo acompañaba. Además solicitó que la Fiscalía actué de manera inmediata, ya que hay suficientes elementos de convicción para abrir instrucción fiscal y formular cargos dada la gravedad de los hechos.

Finalmente el dirigente acotó que el pueblo tiene plena conciencia que el ex presidente no solo es culpable de la situación de la deuda pública, sino también de la corrupción en Petroecuador, la preventa petrolera, la metida de la mano en la justicia y un sinnúmero de hechos, que a su criterio, lo define como el gobierno más corrupto de la historia.
